SHIPS AHOY CHILD CARE

Ships Ahoy Child Care was established February 2010 and opened May 3, 2010. Ships Ahoy got our permit to be licensed by DHS on May 1, 2010 and received our 2-star certification from DHS on May 11, 2010. We began taking DHS subsidy on June 1, 2010. We began our contract with Cherokee Nation on July 5, 2010. We began our contract with both Creek and Miami Tribes in August 2010. On February 7, 2011 we relocated to a larger building so that we could expand and begin taking more children. We are now licensed to have 86 children in our new building. We began our contract with the East Shawnee tribe on March 8, 2011.

Ships Ahoy is a very child friendly environment along with keeping safety and cleanliness at the highest standards. The building itself has been a daycare center for a while, but it was recently remodeled and several changes were made to update the building such as repainting the inside and outside of the center, new carpet throughout the center, 2 new rooms added on and completed, new sinks added to a couple rooms, a new heating/air unit, and the lobby has been updated. There is a cafeteria where the children eat lunch and snack. We have a van to transport the children to and from school and on field trips. We transport to all Coweta Public Schools and are considering transporting to Park Lane Elementary as well.

The playground consists of all age appropriate outdoor equipment such as swings, slides, climbing apparatus, teeter totter, crawl thru barrels, and several riding toys for all ages. We also have a basket ball goal and have a toddler area as well as infant swings for the little ones.

We also have extra security on top of the door code you must have to enter the front door. We have added security cameras in every room and the playground. We are also working on added more cameras throughout the rest of the building as we can.

MS. CHRISTINA

My name is Christina (Bomar) Michael and I am the Owner of Ships Ahoy Child Care and a Master Teacher. I was born and raised in Tulsa, Oklahoma. I have been working with children since 1994, starting out in a daycare setting. I then moved on to work at Camp Waluhili summer camp where I had once been a camper myself. Eventually I worked as the Assistant Director of a Girl Scout summer camp. I loved teaching the children new things while being outdoors and forming mentoring relationships with the children that have lasted throughout the years. I graduated from Northeastern State University with a Bachelors degree in Family Relations and Child Development.

I then moved to Florida and began working with the Department of Children and Family Services (DCF) as a Family Case Manager. I worked to assure the safety and well-being of children who had been abused or neglected, and assisted these children and their families with services they needed to reach their goals. I then was promoted to a Case Manager Supervisor position where I learned the skills to manage a group of Case Managers and their cases. As much as I understood how important my job was in protecting children, and working to make the families better, I missed working one on one with children, and finally decided to follow through with my dream to open a child care center.

I have since moved back home to Oklahoma and with the support of my husband and family am now the proud Owner of Ships Ahoy Child Care. I have a certificate for van driving, and I am also certified in First Aid/CPR. I am happily married and have a son named Collin. I am excited about this new opportunity and am looking forward to working more closely with the children.
